Shingles herpes & homoeopathy.
Shingles also known as herpes zoster,is narmally caused by the domrant virus of chicken pox contracted in childhood. Often when chicken pox is suppressed by strong medicines and the vesicles do not come out completely, the virus remains dormant near the cells of the spinal cord. As we grow older and our resistance it's path along the affected nereve emerging once more skin. The nerve is irritated by this viral migration, causing pain, itching and a burning sensation in the skin during the first few days prior to the appearance of a rash.
The symptoms may be perplexing to the Patient' and to the doctor alike, since at the initial stage there are hardly any clues to help in the diagnosis. If the painful area is at the back of the chest it may be mistaken for pleurisy, if it's in the front of the chest pericarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart) may be considered or even a heart attack. But the truth becomes apparent four or five days later when rashes appear exactly where the pain was felt. The little red, raised pimples follow the distribution of the nereve fibres.
Since the nerves do not cross the midline of the body (one set emerges from each side of the spinal cord) the rash of shingles stops abruptly at the midline. It is almost never present on both sides of the body.
Dormant Virusesy.
No one knows exactly which specific activate the dormant virus. Shingles develops mostly among the elderly because of their decreased immunohistochemical capability. But sometimes distinct stress or trauma is enough to bring on an attack. An operation, emotional crisis, acute gout, a heart attack, radiation or chemotherapy can all be triggers.
The shingles rash usually lasts for about a week. Pain is severe at the onset and diminished with the passage of time. But different complications can occur. For example, in someone with low resistance the virus, instead of being on the skin may spread internally throughout the body and cause death or it may involve the nervous system and cause encephalitis.
When the opitc nerves is affected it may cause excruciating pain that may even lead to blindness.
Similarly if the ear is involved it may cause deafness.
Treatment
Certain Homoeopathic medicines have a specific action on the nerves. They have capacity of controlling the disease in its initial stages, before it spreads to a number of nerves. The immediate administration of these drugs curtails the pain and checks the spread and complications of the disease to s great extent.

Aconite a sudden pain on one side of the chest wall is fell after exposure to dry cold fever restlessness. Aconite 10 M 5pills every hr. Will immediately control the disease and prevent it from spreading any further.
Ignatia sudden emotional shock can reactivate the chicken pox virus dormant in our nerve centre. This shock could be of any nature. Here the symptoms of pain are associated with Hysterical outbursts. Ignatia 1M, 5 pills every two hrs gives immediate relief.
Opium sudden fright can also bring on an attack of herpes. We had a fellow student who happened to see a gruesome accident after which he kept complaining of pain in the left side of the chest. It was thought due to the shock he had due to shock he had developed fear, but within 10_12 days the typical herpes rash came up on his body, with severe pain and agony, Opium helped him out.
There are number of Homoeopathic medicines to treat herpes but each case of herpes should be treated individually to find the correct remedy. Suppressing herpes with modern drugs may prove dangerous and only lead to post herpetic neuralgia.
