When adenoids function properly, they serve as islands of defence against infections.But they are overcome by infection or do not function properly for some reason or other they tend to cause more trouble than they can otherwise prevent. Surgeons suggest surgery. But we have so , often heard of the problem recurring even after surgery. What, then should be done?  Before answering the question , let us try and understand the adenoids a little better.

What does your nose do for you?
Your nose is air-conditioner of your respiratory system. Every day, it treats approximately 500 cubic feet (14.2 cubic metres) of air , the amount enclosed in a small room. It filters out dust , traps bacteria from the air, brings air to the temperature of the blood and also adds moisture.
Besides the nose is a collector of smell, . It also helps in giving resonance to the voice, adding a richness of tone that would otherwise lacking .

Nose breathing versus mouth breathing
The mouth is strictly meant for eating and drinking. It has few defences against germs and is not good at warming or moistening the air you breath. Of course, in certain emergencies, such as when you have a severe cold and your nasal passage is completely blocked, you have no choice but to breath through the mouth.

What is a deviated nasal septum?
We frequently hear from patients that they are suffering from a constant nasal cold, a stuffed nose, blocked nostrils, chronic cold and even sinusitis because they have a deviated nasal septum and that according to surgeons it should be operated. But what happens after it is operated? Most of them within a short time once again complain of the same old problem.
The septum or cartilage wall between the nostrils deviates from a straight line and creates two aur passages that are unequal in size and shape, it is this unequal size that gives rise to the problem. Surgery can only provide temporary relief because the septum is so frail and thin that even the slightest injury to the Nose would again cause it to deviate. Therefore it is best to treated with correctly homeopathic medicines.
Since there are increasing negative reports on the removal of adenoids and operations on the septum, it is wiser to treat this condition with homoeopathic medicines.
Aconite    It is indicated when the patient develops immediate nose colds on exposure to dry ,cold on exposure to dry , cold weather, and also in sudden checked perspiration. Initially, there are bouts of sneezing Followed by complete dryness of the Nose with severe pain at the root of the nose. Aconite 1 M five pills Tds will give immediate relief but it should be administered within 24 hrs of contracting the cold.
Bryonia. If you are late for the Aconite stage that is, if you are suffering from a stuffed, irritable nose for more than 48 hrs then start taking Bryonia 1 M five pills three doses daily..  Symptoms are dryness of the nose with severe headache and a constant desire to below the nose in order to clear the head and reduce the headache though this does not happen. If the cold is not checked it goes to into the lungs and develops into a hard,dry racking cough. There is a tremendous thirst for water because of complete dryness of the mouth
Allium cepa The patient develops cold in damp cold weather. Ad soon as he enters a warm room he has bouts of sneezing with copious, watery and Extremely acrid discharge from the eyes and the nose . Here the discharge from the eyes and the nose. The discharge from the eyes is bland. From the Nose it is extremely acrid, it corrodes the nose and upper lip , making it sore and red .At times tiny blisters are also seen in the nose Allium cepa 200 five pills Tds
Teucrium mar  This is most important remedy in chronic nasal catarrh with polyps , large offensive crusts and clinkers with loss of the sense of smell. There is feeling of crawling insects in the nose which brings on bouts of sneezing. It is a specific for children who suffer from repeated worm infections along with blocked nose .200 potency five pills Tds
Dulcamara It is recommended when you are allergic to cold damp weather,cold baths swimming,getting the feet wet or in sudden changes of weather from hot to cold. The cold starts from the nose, developing into a sire throat. The nose gets comletly blocked with an occasional thick yellow mucus discharge there is a desire to keep the nose warm by keeping a cloth around it 200 C potency Tds
Gelsemium Thus is indicated when a person is allergic to warm moist weather and develops a cold. The cold comes on gradually not immediately but it is accompanied by a running nose. The patient feels as if red-hot water is passing through the nostrils mild fever with chill and congestive headache 1 M five pills TDS
The above remedies are given to people suffering from common allergic factors but as always homoeopathic medicines must be given according to individual symptoms and conditions . Besides people suffering from these Allergies should try and find the causative factors in order to minimise the allergy.
