Symptoms The symptoms of brain tumours are numerous and not specific to brain tumours, they can be caused by many other illnesses as well. In many people the onset of symptoms is very gradual and may be overlooked by both the patient and the patient's family members, even for long periods. Occasionally the symptoms appear more rapidly. In some instances the patient acts as if he or she is having a stroke, if the cancer is located mainly in a specific brain lobe that is usually responsible for certain body functions
Symptoms that often occurs first are those that are the consequences of increased intracranial pressure. Large tumours with extensive perifocal swelling.
Dysfunction depending on the Tumour location and the damage it may have caused to surrounding brain structures.
Frontal lobe tumours changes in personality and intellect, uncoordinated walking or weaknesses of one side of the body, loss of smell, occasional speech difficulties.
Parietal lobe.difficulty speaking or understanding words problems with writting reading or simple calculations. Numbness or weaknesses on one side of the body.
Occipital lobe loss of vision on one side. The person may not notice this at first and it may be sometimes be discovered during routine eye tests.
Temporal lobe fits feeling of fear speech difficulties and memory problems.
Cerebellum lack of coordination which affects walking and speech
Seizures (fits) are another common symptom caused by brain tumours some people may experience muscles spasm which could be twitching or jerking of arm or leg or sometimes whole body.
Treatment
Such as surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy may be used alone or in combination to treat brain tumours.
