It can be caused by infection, allergies, and chemical or particulate irritation of the sinuses. Most people do not spread sinus infection to other people. Sinusitis may be classified as acute sinus infection,  subacute sinus infection,

Sinus is a hollow air filled cavities, that are in the skull and connected to the nasal airways by a narrow hole in the bone (ostium) . Normally all sinuses are open to the nasal airways through an ostium. Humans have four pairs of these cavities. These are,,,
Frontal sinus (in forehead)
Maxillary sinus (behind cheeks) 
Ethmoid sinuses (between the eyes,)
Sphenoid sinus ( deep behind the ethmoids) 
These four pairs are often called as a unit Paranasal  sinuses. Functions of the sinuses include humidifying and warming inspired air, insulation of the surrounding structures (eyes, nerves)  increasing voice resonance, and as buffers against facial trauma. Sinuses decrease the weight of the skull. If the inflammation hinders the clearance of mucous or blocks the natural ostium, the inflammation may progress into a bacterial infection.

Works best in cases where a person is unable to breath through the nose. Blockage of the nose is more troublesome at night.
Sticta is well indicated for sinus congestion with a stuffy nose along with fullness at the root of nose. Painful dryness of the mucus membranes,  accompanied by obstruction of the nose.
Kali bich is one of the most effective remedy for sinus congestion with post nasal drip of thick mucus, nasal discharge thick stringy ropy. Give Kali bi four times a day 30 and Siliceia 200 every fortnight.
Iodium  sinusitis with shooting, hammering pain in head and the lower jaw, especially during attack of catarrh, worse by bending forward. It affects the right side of the head ear and lower jaw
Kali iod Tearing or jerking stitches in sinus. Digging and aching coryza occurs repeatedly. Nose red and swollen. Discharge thick green and offensive.
Headache, sore throat, Eyes burn. Stuffed up nose. Nose does not stop running, chronic catarrhal purulent discharge, slow digestion. Ethmoid (bone at the base of skull forming the upper bony nose) and front sinus Eucalyptus glo is best remedy.
Pain in sinus mostly occurs on eyebrows after having cold. If the pain is on right eye brow or is right sided sinusitis Sanguinaria nit
If the pain is left sided and on left eye brow Sepia
Pain is on both sides Sticta pulse.
