Bed sores.
Bedsores are ulcers( medical name decubitus ulcera) which are formed because of dead skin tissues. The most common area for bedsores is the back where there are several prominences. These ulcers may be superficial, caused by local skin irritation. Deep lesions are often undetected until they penetrate the skin.
Causes constant pressure, particularly over bony prominences, interruputs the normal circulatory function and causes bedsores. The intensity and duration of such pressure governs the severity of the ulcers. Let's see how this can happen.
When pressure is exerted over an area for about an hr or two it decreases or stops the blood flow, thus causing swelling of capillaries and inflammation, this leads to the death of tissues and with tissues bacteria attack the area and ulcers are formed
The patient's position determines the pressure exerted on the tissues. For example, if the head of the bed is raised or a patient assumes a slumped position, gravity pulls his wt downwards and forward .This shearing force causes deep ulcers due to disturbance in blood supply. A person gets bedsores When there is insufficient body movements. This may happen after surgery or loss of wt or because of inadequate nutrition, bad living conditions old age of poor nursing care.
Treatment to prevent bedsores.

Very deep seated ulcers
