Glomangioma.
The solitery glomus, a vascular nail bed tumor arises from a normal glomus(neuromyoartial organ surrounding the arteriovenous junction whichever is supposed to regulate blood pressure and tempreture).
The glomus tumor contains numerous vascular channels lined by layer of flattened endothelial cells, peripheral to which many layers of cuboidal glomus cells are seen. Mylined and non mylinated nerves are found
The lesions is a skin colored or slightly dusky, blue, single small well defined firm nodule about1-20 mm in diameter, which is usually extremely tender to touch. The pain is paroxysmal and sharp, radiating to various parts. The lesions seen are usually small subungual ones, though lesions can occur on the fingers and arms progressive growth may lead to ulceration.
In a few cases multiple glomangiomas tend to occur, which are usually non tender and widely distributed over the body.
In almost half the cases depression of the underlying phalanx is seen MRI will detect the exact limits of the tumor.
Biopsy is diagnostic.
