Shaving Bumps

Pseudofolliculitis Barbara is a facial skin problems. In simple English this ailment can described as an inflammatory skin reaction caused by hair which, having been sharpened by shaving, pierces the skin and causes an irritative reaction popularly known as shaving bumps. The phenomenon is more likely to occur in men who have thick facial hair which tendes to grow at an acute angle.The intial treatment for this is to avoid shaving but that is not really a medical solution..
The right approach.
The solution is to remove this extra sensitivity of the skin which results in rashes or eruptions after shaving..
Seventeen years old boy B was extremely happy to see the first signs of manhood hair growth on his face. His father showed him how to shave, but unfortunately within 24 hrs of his first shave the youngester developed very painful tiny red boils all over the area where he had shaved. He used some local antiseptic creams and lotions and it did subsided after a week or so.
But the same thing happened after his second shave, and gradually it came to stay permanently. This was an embarrassing problem for young boy. By now he had tried all sorts of creams and lotions, but these only suppressed the problem for a few days.
Gradually the area of his face which was once so clean and fresh was changing its texture and colour and the family was worried. Hence it was decided to switch to Homoeopathic treatment.
The boy was a tall fair and plump young man with very fine delicate looking skin. He had red hot flushed facial skin on touching his face I could feel the heat coming out from his facial eructations and he said they were extremely painful. A few of them would even become big and give rise to throbbing sensations.
Cold water or iced water applications would relives pains only for some time . The eructations would either subside after eight to ten days or a few of them would fill up with pus which would then start oozing out.It was Belladonna 1 m five pills four times a day that gave him relief'. It was for ten days till the inflammation subsided.
Subsequently he was given Sulphur iodide 30 five pills three times a day. For a long time to bring good relief. In between this recurance of an acute attack ( five or six times)
Today the boy possesses an excellent skin complexion without any blemishes.
Arnica This is one of the foremost medicine for crops of tiny boils coming up each time a person shaves and for boils that are very sore to touch. Within two three days of cropping up they become bluish black. Arnic200 five pills three times a day is the recommended treatment
Calc Sul An excellent remedy when the boils get filled with pus and thick yellow lumpy pus starts oozing out. They are very painful and itch a lot. At times crusts are formed under which a purulent discharge is present. The person feels comfortable when cold water is applied to the face or if he is in cold surroundings. The attack is normally at its peak during the summer months.
Calc Sul 1m five pills three times a day should be given when the pus is oozing out after it has dried and the information is over, then as a preventive therapy give calc Sul 6 x  4 pills three times a day.
Face scars
Silicea has a capacity to stimulate the body and its vital force to reabsorb the scar tissue and fibrotic condition. At times while shaving or scrubbing the face they might reopen, causing a lot of pain and making the pus ooze out. This remedy is also very useful during an Acute of boils, specially when they constantly remain red and inflammed but never end in pus, nor is there any sign of their getting healed. This means that these bumps are a permanent feature on the face. Give Silicea 6x five pills four times a day and watch for two tyyof reactions. The boils will either start going down in size and heal or they might become big with pus points. In the later case give Silicea 1 m five pills three times a day which will dry up the pus and start the healing process.
Homoeopathic after shave
After shaving is important to apply a good Homoeopathic antiseptic solution which will prevent bacteria infection and help in healing the tissues damaged due to injury caused by the blade. It also gives a feeling of freshness, andrif there are scars caused by those bumps the Homoeopathic lotion will help smoothen them .
You can make this lotion at home . Take 5 percent Calendula mother tincture add 2 percent Echinacea mother tincture, 3 percent Hydrastis mother tincture and to all this add 90 percent distilled water. Keep this soluand use it regularly. Good skin lotions are available at Homoeopathic pharmacies in case you don't want the bother of making them yourself. Avoid using cream based lotions as they may react with the skin. Water based skincare lotions are the best as they don't have any side effects.

Opposite action of high and low potencies.

In typical Calc carb children, it would cure diarrhoea only in high (200/1m ) potencies but could cure constipation only in 6th potency.i experiment in patients, found a similar peculiaritiy that Podophyllum high 200/1 m potency cured diarrhoea and is a fine remedy for constipation with whitish ( bileless ) stools in 6th potency.I remembered reading something like this in some book and found it in Hale's article.
Leave a side the theory, I have made very good use of this point in the following situations.
With Iodium 200/1m , I have added weight to lean and even emaciated boys and girls. And Iodium 2x and 3X are the best remedies to help in reducing obesity given 5 pills 3 times daily. Of course these patients are given the usual indicated high potencies of their constitutional remedies.
People having weakness, dizziness on sitting up or jaundice etc of Digitalis have been wonderfully cured by Digitalis high.30/200 when pulse was slow, and by 3X or 3 even 6th when pulse rate is fast.
In number of cases I have used Bry.200 to dry the phelgm and 6 th potency when there was too much dryness in the air passages or for similar action on the synovial fluid in the large joints like the knee joints.
Now it's Hahnemann who has explained the peculiar seemingly opposite symptoms appearing in the proving. He has called them primarily and secondary. But where a seeming secondary symptom appears first ( in later periods of proving ) he calls this alternating action. This does not depend upon the dose but We make use of this dual action for selecting a potency low or high. This is only possible in some situations, not for every remedy or every symptom .
Experience brought this idea into my practice. It is not antipathy, the indications in the patients being similar to those of the drug.

Incompatable reacttions

Acetic acid and vinegar have been used successfully to antidotes strong drugs likes Aconite, Anaesthetics, Opium, Stramonium and Tobacco. But if used against some others like Belladonna and Arnica., They increase the sufferings
Coffee is a fairly common antidotes to many drugs yet it increases the excitement and frenzy produced by Cantharis. It complicates cases of Colchicum. Coffee and Chamomilla are in the same group and are likely to upset the effects of one another.
A weakness that may be only remaining complaint after some proving or poisoning may indicate China, which drug does not help in the majority of cases. But once in a way, it increases the sufferings ( if the previous drug was too similar?)
Hahnemann' says Cinchona bark given for the debility produced by Ledum is very injurious ( Ledum is an antidote to Cinchona)
I saw a very bad case of cholera a typical Veratrum alb 200 every 15 minutes three doses. Next day, just to remove the residual debility, seen gave China 30 . Within half an hr the patient started purging again. China must have been an incompatible remedy to Veratrum. Again Veratrum 200; one dose stopped the trouble. After two days Acid phos 6th acted a good pickup to the debilitated patient..
When a prescription is made without the knowledge of the previous treatment. This happens when a patient goes from one Homoeopath to another.The new dr, gets a bad name when his very first prescription upset the patient terribly.Kent says IT is often a hardship for a patient to fall into the hands of a second dr.It is a very common thing for patients to come to me from the hand of good prescribers. I tell them to stay with their Dr. Such changing is often determental to the patient, unless he brings a full record and this is specifically true in relation to a case that has been partially relieved where the remedy has acted properly
A patient having repeated attacks of some trouble improving gradually under treatment with a powerful antipsoric given in asending potencies at long intervals, accidentally takes another remedy ( even in a low potency) in one of these attacks. The whole curative process gets upset. The cases of DRS Gladwin and Clarke mentioned above are typical examples.
During Homoeopathic treatment certain foods do not go well with the remedy. Even things that may usually disagree only slightly act more harmfully during the active phase of the remedial action. Mrs J .T.Kent the untiring co-worker of Dr.Kent has beautifully elaborated this what the patient shall eat and drink must be selected with due regard to the remedy he is taking and his own constitutional demands. When your patient is under the influence of either Carbo veg or Pulsatilla, you will not be surprised if the stomach becomes wonderfully disordered after eating fats or greasy rich food, when your patient has been many days under Bryonia, LYC or Petroleum and he comes in and complaints of an unusually disordered stomach, you may often hit the nail on the head by saying you must have been eating cabbage. Those who have been drinking coffee a long time without any disturbance or wakeful nights will report to you that your medicine has caused them much disturbance, you look up the record and find that you have given them Chamomilla or Nux vom and you will be compelled to request your patient to discontinue coffee at once. Coffee must never be used when China or Nux is the remedy. It would be equally true if you were treating a nervous paralytic with Causticum you would find your patient greatly disturbed by coffee, and you would get no curative action from Causticum. It is very important to warn patients against indulging in cold and frozen foods after giving ARS alb LYC Nux Rhus tox or Pulsatilla. IT is well to warn patients under the influence of Thuja to avoid oysters for a while. Patients suddenly disturbed From drinking milk if under the influence of Calc carb, Nit acid or Sepia and be sure to warn patients under the influence of Ant crud to avoid sour things, vinegar and sour wine. Be sure to tell mothers whose children are under the influence of Ignatia or Argt to keep candy away from them or you will have disordered stomach and diarrhoea to contend with which may interfere with the management of the deeper seated troubles. How wonderfully she has selected the correct phrase. When under the influence of.... Because after the cure, the patient can eat those very things with impunity. Only when under infulance (action) of the remedy are the patients hypersensitive to those incompatible foods. Kent's Materia Medica is also full of such precious advice.

There was a case of stones in the gallbladder, a female aged 37 years, awaful pains,  vomiting,  constipation, pale stools etc .From the day he started treatment he felt better and gradually he considered himself quite normal and healthy. About three years later X-ray showed the stone was a bit bigger. Medicine prescribe was a Cardus mur. I am sure some of you would have tried curing otorrhoea especially with no other symptoms in the patient except for a tendency for cold or sore throat. Even if you say he has been cured or even if you say he does not have a single symptom left sometimes the discharge come again and again showing you that the particular trouble for which he came has remained uncured. For the patient only thing important is the complaint for which he came to you. It may be ingrowing toe nail, a corn and what not . No amount of our telling him that after he has been constitutionally cured his complaint will be better. Dr . Kent had advised us to go on warning the patient like this, perhaps he would manage to convince his patient but for an everyday practitioner it is an awfully difficult job to keep the patient long enough so that all his constitutional traits and weakness are removed and then the main complaint is removed. There must be a simpler, easier and more direct way . One of the methods perhaps is to study more our organ remedies or those which have a special affinity for these complaints. Usually such remedies are not even remembered. They may not come in the reportory and we miss a good chance of curing a patient.
Our science and law are so vast that they must include small points also like a thorn in the flesh, a wart a small tumor a cyst so that they need not require a long drawn constitutional, antimiasmatic treatment for their removal.
Our Materia Medica is full of such singular or peculiar or one sided symptoms. We must make full of use these.Boerick's Materia Medica is treasure for this .

Piles

Piles or haemorrhoids are abnormally inflamed or engorged blood vessels in the anus. It can at times cause great Pain discomfort to the sufferer mnjaegi
Causes
Bad Life style habits are the most common causes of piles.
Other causes include stress bad habits pregnancy and childbirth.
When one does not attend to piles it can lead to bleeding and prolapse of the engorged veins.
When piles are retracted bleeding can be a dangerous situation leading to shock
Sometimes, strangulation of piles can also occurs. This is associated with severe pain  Other notable complications include thrombosis ( blood clot ) ulceration and uncommonly gangeren or tissue death or necrosis. There may be fibrosis ( excess tissue) as well as discharge of pus.
Symptoms and Diagnosis
Pain is common in external piles this can get worse while straining to pass stools.Bleeding may also come in splashes while pressing for stools.Bleeding may be profuse in some external piles, the sweeling can be felt around the anal opening. In case of internal piles it can not be felt initially. When the disorder progresses the piles protrude. There may be also discharge of mucous with itching around the anal orfice. There is more to piles than pain and discomfort.
Chronic constipation When one is constipated one ends to exert pressure to empty the bowels. Slowly the pressure affects the blood vessels in and around the anus. This may lead to piles.
Bleeding fresh blood from the anus is one of the earliest symptoms of piles. Bleeding can occur during,before  or after passing stools.Individuals who have piles often feel that they have not been able to evacuate their bowels completely.
There are grades or tyes of piles
First grade piles develops inside the anal canal or the rectum.
Second grade piles are protrusions from the anus they return inwards on their own.
Third grade piles is similar to second grade piles but the protrusion needs to be back manually.
Fourth grade piles is protrusion that hangs outside of anal canal.
Your dr will evaluate your case, inquiring into your lifestyle habits and streeses .
He/ she will conduct physical examination and ask you to cough.
Second degree piles can protrude on coughing and then return,  third degree piles will remain and protrude. These are often easily visible.
Your physician may do a digital exams. They may also use a proctoscope to examine the extent and type of the problem.
Sometimes sigmoidoscopy is done to analyse and intitiate appropriate treatment..

Acne vulgaris

Acne vulgaris
Acne is chronic inflammatory disease of the pilosebaceous follicles. It is characterized by the formation of comedones, erythematous papules and pustules, less frequently by nodules or pseudocysts and, in some cases is accompanied by scarring.
The pathogenesis involves four major factors
Increased sebum production
An abnormality of the microbial flora.
Cornification of the pilosebaceous duct.
Production of inflammation.
The condition usually starts by the mid twenties. Acne incidence increased during puberty is due to the increased sebaceous activity. Acne develops earlier in females than in males which may reflect the earlier onset of puberty, but it usually is some what severer in boys. In twenties it gradually decreases and it again seen specially in women after the age of 26 or so.
Common occurance of acne at puberty is because of increased production of sex hormones, which makes the sebaceous glands hyperactive. Sebaceous activity is predominantly dependent on androgenic sex hormones of gonadal or Adrenal origin. Because of a deficiency in sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) androgen and progesterone are responsible for hyperplasia of the oil gland (eunuchs do not have oily skins) there is general agreement that plasma testosterone levels are not abnormally high in males with acnes..
